SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

Sustainable agriculture/Organic farming…
Increased use of commercial fertilizers has greatly been attributed to the continuous increase in the atmospheric green houses like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide..Now it’s a high time we shifted to organic farming/sustainable farming as organic manure is more advantageous. One, they retain the soils water moisture, they increase the soil humus..they control the soils Ph and doesn’t contribute to the generation of green house emissions..This kind of farming shall help mitigate the negatives effects of climate change.
Also the kind of crops grown have an impact to climate change..Its a high time we shift and focus on mainly legumes as they tend to be drought resistant and improves soil fertility. Crops like sorghum, beans cassava and intercrop them with crops like maize..

SHOTS ON CLIMATE CHANGE

LETS DO IT TOGETHER-CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate Change
As you may recognize, the vision 2030 seeks to transform Kenya into a middle level income country by 2030. The takeoff phase of this transformation is expected to be driven mainly by agriculture and Agro-based manufacturing. . Additionally, realization of the vision is anchored on reliable energy, water and human capital. All these sectors are sensitive to climate variability and change. Failure to recognize and address associated risks could therefore not only delay the promise of the vision but also erode the gains made in recent years. It is therefore important that climate change receives a fair share in organizational and national debate .Additionally, there is need to put the knowledge, capability and climate-proofing capacity in your management’s hands for conducting climate change risk, adaptation policies and plans that are custom-made for each organization.
In respect to that,  Envirofit consultants in collaboration with Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat, International Institute For Environment And Development(IIED), national environmental management authority  (NEMA),  The University Of North Texas (UNT)-sustainability department and The United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) organized for a 2-day climate change conference at Safari Park Hotel from 25-26th 2013 to discuss and examine how well to implement integrated and comprehensive adaptation actions and resilience plans in order to ensure institutional and organizational development processes incorporate climate change risks and opportunities to secure development gains under a changing climate. Participants were taken through how climate change has affected today’s activities and how man has greatly attributed to climate change. At organizational level, a lot was learnt. How as an organization you are addressing the concept of climate change was a very big question, with participants confessing that more training need be done for them to understand better the issue of climate change.

Solid Waste Management
Waste management has been key when it comes to climate change and environment conservation. One of the most modern aspects being fronted today is how solid waste can be sorted at source. This it has been observed shall make it easy for recycling and proper disposal of solid waste. Here, the main aim is to be able to collect plastics, paper, glass, and organic waste separately. This shall lessen the burden of sorting the waste at a later stage before the disposing....

Join me guys lets chat on this issue of climate change together....
